How We Size Your Softener
An undersized softener runs out of soft water and regenerates constantly. An oversized one wastes money and can let water sit in the resin too long. We size from three numbers: your hardness, your iron, and how many people live in the home.
Iron counts against a softener's capacity, so a well with iron needs a bigger unit than the hardness alone suggests. We measure both during your free in-home test.

Why We Use Clack Control Valves
The control valve is the brain of a softener. We primarily install Clack valves, a widely used, American-made valve found on softeners and filters across the country.
- Metered regeneration. The valve measures the water you use and regenerates only when the resin needs it.
- Not locked to one dealer. Clack parts are widely available, so you're not tied to a single company for service.
- Easy to repair. Seals, pistons, and boards are replaceable, so a worn part doesn't mean a new softener.

Our Water Softener Installation Process
- Free in-home water test. We test hardness, iron, pH, and dissolved solids at your kitchen sink in about 15 to 20 minutes.
- Sizing and written quote. We size the softener to your water and household and give you a written quote from our printed price book, usually the same day.
- Installation. Our master plumber–led team installs the softener, bypass, drain, and brine lines. Most installs take a single day.
- Startup and testing. We program the valve, sanitize the resin, and test your softened water before we leave.
- Salt and service. Optional salt delivery and maintenance plans keep it running, and we're a call away if anything changes.
Salt, Maintenance & Salt Delivery
Most homeowners add salt every 6 to 10 weeks, depending on hardness and water use. Keep the brine tank at least a quarter full and check it monthly.

Pair it with reverse osmosis
Softened water is safe for most people to drink. Many homeowners add a reverse osmosis system at the kitchen sink for bottled-quality drinking water, which also removes the small amount of sodium a softener adds.
If you're on a sodium-restricted diet, ask us about RO or potassium chloride instead of salt.

How long does water softener installation take?
Most installs take a single day. We install the softener, bypass, drain, and brine lines, program the valve, and test your softened water before we leave.
What size water softener do I need?
It depends on your hardness, iron, and household size. A family of four with 10 to 20 grains per gallon of hardness typically needs around a 48,000-grain softener, and iron pushes that higher. We size it from your free water test.
Do water softeners remove iron?
A softener can remove light iron if it's sized for it. Heavy iron, manganese, or iron bacteria usually need an iron filter ahead of the softener.
Will a water softener fix a rotten-egg smell?
No. A sulfur smell comes from hydrogen sulfide, which a softener doesn't remove. A sulfur filter or air-injection system does.
Is softened water safe to drink?
Yes, for most people. A softener adds a small amount of sodium. If you're on a sodium-restricted diet, a reverse osmosis system at the kitchen sink removes it, or you can use potassium chloride instead of salt.
